Kupungarri Clinic

Kupungarri is situated at Mt Barnett which is on the Gibb River Road.  The community is roughly 300km east of Derby and 76km east of Imintji.  It takes about 3 and a half to four hours to drive from Derby depending on the road conditions and the number of other vehicles on the road.  The community comprises of about 20 houses, a school and the clinic.  The community population is mobile and varies in the numbers at any given time but a round figure is about 80-100.

The clinic is a newly renovated building with an office and large treatment rooms: open Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursday from 0800 to 1630hrs with an hour lunch break.  The only exceptions being Wednesdays when there is a doctor’s day at Imintji.  Then the clinic days will change for Imintji instead of being Tuesday they travel to do a clinic.  Then that Tuesday will be spent at Kupungarri clinic. Normally the nurse travels from Kupungarri to Imintji to hold a clinic twice a week.

There are 2 Registered Nurses based at Kupungarri community with a Doctor visiting once a month.

Staff respond to life threatening emergencies.

Mt Barnett is a working cattle station owned by the Kupungarri community. The community activity participates in the management of both these business enterprises.  The Mt Barnett roadhouse is owned by the community and s situated on the other side of the Gibb River Road from the community.  The roadhouse provides a range of grocery lines and also has hot food available for purchase.
